Zest – Private chefs heat up home kitchens
We were lucky enough to be featured in the Zest section of The Press today.
“In days gone by, having a chef come to your home and cater your dinner party was a high cost service reserved for the wealthy. ”
“Cantabrians are taking this up in droves, choosing to dine in with friends and family rather than doing out to a restaurant. In the comfort of their own homes, the diners can choose the level of service they require, and could even wear their slippers to the dinner table. ”
“Eaton Drink Co. is taking things a step further and provides bespoke hospitality service from the ground up. Clients can have a package tailor-made to their budget, no matter what the size.
Owners Toby Eaton and Nikki Collins have a long history in hospitality. They can either give you the tools to sort your own house party out, or be involved to varying degrees depending on the event. If you really want to be hands-off , they can do it all. They’ll even organise getting your carpets steam cleaned the day after.
Toby and Nikki started the company about a year ago. They have no set menus, no pre-prepared event packages, and no real limitations. They went into the industry with the knowledge they were “small players” compared to large catering companies.
If your having a cocktail party, they can premix drinks for you to pop in the fridge and pour yourself, or tend the bar with ingredients you (or they) picked up. Want a few canapes too? They sort those out too. “I don’t like doing the same thing twice,” Nikki says. “And we have very high standards.”
The Eaton Drink Co. came about when the couple realised people wanted to hang out at home but still wanted to have an amazing, creative party. They didn’t always want to spend a fortune, but they wanted to make it special. Some times they just need a to-do list, other times they wanted to enjoy their evening without being stuck in the kitchen.
Watching a skilled chef work and a mixologist creating cocktails often has guests enthralled, Toby says ” People are choosing to stay in more, and are looking at other options for that”
